INTRODUCTION:

The Whitgift School has a long history and a strong dedication to education. It was established in Croydon, South London, in 1600 by Archbishop John Whitgift. The school serves boys from 10 to 18 years old on a 45-acre parkland site, with boarding options available starting at age 13. Whitgift School is renowned for its inclusion and for having one of the biggest bursary programs in the UK, with 47% of students receiving financial aid in the form of scholarships or bursaries. The school's commitment to providing individualized instruction is seen in the range of qualifications it offers, which include the IB, BTEC, Pre-U, and A-levels.

Apart from its stellar academic record, Whitgift School is well-known for its exceptional accomplishments in athletics and the performing arts. With over 120 national titles won in the last five years, the institution's comprehensive sports program is supported by the state-of-the-art Sports and Conference Centre. The school's commitment to the arts is obvious in its Music School and Concert Hall, with close connections to the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Whitgift School remains a leading example of education and holistic growth in the United Kingdom, having recently received a 'outstanding' rating from the Educational Quality Inspection for both academic accomplishments and personal growth.

ADMISSION GUIDELINES:

During the Autumn Term, Whitgift School hosts Open Morning and Open Evening. These give families a glimpse into school life and give them the unique chance to have guided tours of the facilities. Due to space limitations, reservations are required.

Oversubscription Criteria:

There are no oversubscription criteria.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:

Admission to Whitgift School's Upper 1 (Year 7) is determined by your son's academic performance in the 11+ admission exam, interviews, and references from his current school.

You have to pay the £160 application fee and fill out the online application form for him to be considered for entrance. November of Year 6 is the deadline for this.

January of the admission year is when the 11+ entrance exam is held. Your son will receive a follow-up invitation for an interview if he meets the necessary score. Please be aware that a senior staff member will also be asking parents to attend a separate interview.

CATHCHMENT AREA:

There is no catchment area for the school.

SCHOLARSHIPS AND BURSARIES:

The winners of Academic Scholarships are determined by their performance on the entrance exams. Outstanding performers may receive a fee remission ranging from five to fifty percent. Boys may apply for scholarships in their area of expertise if they have extraordinary talent in music, art, design, technology, engineering, athletics, theatre, or other subjects. Those who pass the entrance exam and meet the requirements will then receive a callback for a special test or audition. Scholarship payments may total up to 50% of the cost of attendance.

Each year, a significant amount of bursaries are offered to day students. Bursaries are awarded based on financial need, and to be eligible for one, you must apply for a bursary to the Whitgift Foundation. The bursary's worth will vary based on your financial situation and degree of need. However, the institution will also consider your son's academic standing as determined by the admissions committee.

PREPARATION AND TARGET TEST SCORES:

Using practice papers is one of the finest strategies to get ready for competitive admission exams. These provide rapid and effective acquainting of pupils with the structure and categories of questions they will face on the real test. They also give pupils a great chance to practice working under time constraints.

Students who regularly achieve a score of 75% or above on the 11+ practice exams should be prepared to pass the 11+ exam at Whitgift School. This has historically been a pretty good indication that your child should perform well on the Whitgift School 11+ exam, however, there are no promises.
