INTRODUCTION:

With origins reaching back to 1432, Sevenoaks School is a distinguished and ancient establishment situated in Kent, England. The school is well-known for its extensive curriculum and outstanding academic performance. It provides a broad education that includes science, languages, the arts, humanities, and a special course on critical thinking. With the help of the interacting Critical Thinking classes, students may mold their conception of the world and other belief systems by encouraging a culture of inquiry and candid dialogue. A warm and inviting learning environment is created by the school's dedication to providing each student with personalized pastoral care, which highlights the importance of each student and fosters trust and open-mindedness within the student body.

In addition to its strong academic program, Sevenoaks stands out for its extensive enrichment offerings, which give pupils a solid basis for all-round development. Numerous clubs and societies, such as the Feminist Society, astronomy club, chess, Model United Nations (MUN), debating, and Eco Committee, are among the co-curricular activities. A wide range of domestic and foreign excursions, to places like Morocco, Iceland, and First World War battlefields, are also part of the school's extensive enrichment program. Through these experiences, students at Sevenoaks want to develop a love of diversity and discovery, which will enhance their overall educational journey. The school takes great satisfaction in cultivating a progressive and global mindset on its vast 100-acre campus. Its vibrant student body actively contributes to upholding the institution's prestigious reputation that it has enjoyed for almost six centuries.

The school hosts Open Mornings in June and September, which parents and kids are encouraged to attend before applying for a spot. SCHOLARSHIPS AND BURSARIES:

Scholars at Sevenoaks School can apply for both Academic and Music Scholarships, which each provide a significant £1,000 savings in the first year's tuition. Academic awards are given to applicants who score highly on the entrance exam and in the group interview; application forms are available on the school website. However, extraordinary talent can enroll in the Emerging Talent program, and music scholars receive complimentary instrumental tuition on 2-3 instruments. Members of specialized music programs such as the National Youth Orchestra are eligible.

Sevenoaks School also strives to promote diversity by providing means-tested bursaries to pupils from low-income households who perform very well on entrance exams. Children from families with a yearly gross income of £40,000 or less are normally awarded free places under these scholarships, which can cover up to 100% of the cost. Families making less than £100,000 a year are eligible for smaller bursaries. To ensure that financial support is given to those who need it the most, the means-testing process involves a house visit, which fosters inclusiveness among the school community.

EXAM FORMAT:

English, Mathematics, and Verbal Reasoning make up the three components of the Sevenoaks entrance exam.

1.      English Paper (1 Hour):

Dictionary use is not permitted during this timed test. Two sections, A and B, each with a set amount of time allotted, make up the test. Thirty-five minutes of Section A are devoted to comprehension skills. Candidates will be required to show that they can comprehend and analyze written material throughout this phase. For twenty-five minutes, Section B is devoted to composition and creative writing. The aim for participants is to provide well-reasoned and organized answers. Respondents must answer the entire test in complete sentences, making sure that their spelling and punctuation are correct.

2.     Mathematics Paper (1 Hour):

The maths and problem-solving exam for 10-year-olds is a thorough evaluation that covers a variety of subjects. It is not permitted for candidates to use calculators, and they have to show that they can add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Additionally, the test assesses understanding of directed numbers, number sequences, simple percentages, ratios, balancing equations, solving fractional and integer problems, angle properties, areas, volumes, prisms, symmetry, averages, range, and distance. The evaluation highlights the significance of demonstrating all working, notes that supported solutions are required to receive full points, and grants partial credit for the right procedures even in cases where the final result is incorrect.

3.     Verbal Reasoning (1 Hour):

The questions will resemble those found on the Verbal Reasoning papers for the GL Assessment (NFER).

There's also a group interview that lasts forty minutes. Candidates must execute tasks in teams of five or six during the interview process. Two employees will be watching them to see if the candidates are eager to listen to others and share ideas, as well as if they are good team players.

PREPARATION AND TARGET TEST SCORES:

Our practice exams are among the best resources for getting ready for a challenging entrance exam. Your child's confidence will increase if they are familiar with the exam's format and question kinds. In addition to acquainting your child with the format of the exam, our practice exams will guarantee that your child answers the questions effectively and efficiently. They are also a great way for your child to get experience working under time constraints. Children can practice answering questions fast and carefully by practicing under timed test situations.

Students who can regularly achieve 75%+ on the 11+ practice exams should be in good standing to pass the 11+ exam at Sevenoaks School. There are no certainties, but traditionally, this has been a pretty good sign that your child would perform well on the Sevenoaks 11+ exam.
