ADMISSION GUIDELINES:

Through the institute's entrance exam, students are typically admitted between the ages of 11 and 13, with a limited proportion entering the Sixth Form. Academic selection is strict at the school. The students are split around evenly between primary and preparatory education. The school boasts a diverse student body in part because to the generous bursary programs, which help families financially by covering up to 100% of tuition in some cases.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:

Applications for admission at the regular intake will be handled by the coordinated secondary admissions plan for Surrey. A deadline for the current year has been set for the submission of Year 7 admissions applications. The application form's preferences will be taken into consideration for allocating school spots. Candidates will be asked to select up to six preferences for Year 7, and these will be taken into account equally.

Early in January of the projected admission year, boys and girls who will be 11 years old on September 1 take an entrance exam. There will be three papers: one in Verbal and Non-Verbal reasoning, one in Mathematics, and one in English.

Following the tests, the applicant must participate in an interview with a member of the staff, during which the child will be questioned about their interests and hobbies. A group interview with the Headmaster is also required.

CATCHMENT AREA:

As an independent institute, RGS does not have a defined catchment area.

EXAM FORMAT:

The entrance exam for Reigate Grammar School consists of two written tests and a computer-based test, comprised of the subjects:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Reasoning

The English test focuses on both reading comprehension and writing abilities, including vocabulary, spelling, and grammar. Good use of imagination, creativity, structure, purpose, organization, cohesiveness, and sentence structure will earn the candidate marks.

The mathematics test evaluates the child's aptitude for computation and problem-solving. There will be questions on measurement, geometry, algebra, and statistics on the test.

The Verbal Reasoning component of the Reasoning test is largely meant to evaluate logical reasoning, vocabulary use, and language use. In contrast to the Verbal Reasoning component of the Reasoning test, which assesses knowledge, the Non-Verbal Reasoning section evaluates understanding, interpretation, and problem-solving skills.

PREPARATION AND TARGET TEST SCORES:

The students are strongly advised to take practice exams in a timed environment so they can become accustomed to answering questions rapidly and under pressure.

Students who consistently achieve 75% or higher on our 11+ practice exams should be successful in passing the Reigate Grammar School 11+ exam.
