With about 1700 students and a focus on science and sports, the school routinely earns exceptional exam results that are substantially higher than the national average. ADMISSION GUIDELINES:

The standard application form for your local authority must be completed if you are interested in your child being considered for a spot in Year 7 at Queens School. For your kid to be evaluated for admission based on academic merit, you must also register them to take the academic aptitude exam through the SW Herts Consortium. Your child is only required to take the academic tests once if they are looking for a spot in any of the consortium's grammar and partially selective schools since they are all administered by the same testing company.

Oversubscription Criteria:

·       Children who are or were previously looked after.

·       Youngsters with specific medical or social requirements.

·       Kids who have a sibling enrolled in the school at the time of enrollment.

·       Students residing permanently in postcodes listed in the admission policy document of the institution.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:

Before registering for Queens School's academic aptitude test, check with your child's teacher to see if 11 plus and selective education are a good fit for them. The purpose of the 11+ exam is to find pupils who rank in the top 25% of their year group. To take the exam, students must register with the SW Herts Consortium by April 11th and June 16th, 2023. Information on the test site will be made available on July 7, 2023. When your child's test results are available via the parent portal on the SWH Consortium website on October 19, 2023, you can choose whether to apply for a spot at Queens' School. Make sure you adhere to the oversubscription criteria of Queens' School by designating it on the standard application form for your home local authority when applying. By October 31st, 2023, the application must be filed to your local council in your residence, as there may be competition for the few available slots.

EXAM FORMAT:

The components of the Queens School 11 Plus exam are:

·       A fifty-minute Mathematics test provided by GL Assessment.

·       A fifty-minute Verbal Reasoning test provided by GL Assessment.

The following subjects are assessed on the test:

➢ Mathematics: Students' mathematical knowledge, logical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities are evaluated in these areas. Number operations, algebra, geometry, measurement, statistics, and data handling will all be tested on the exam.

➢ Verbal Reasoning: Your child's reasoning abilities are assessed in these parts using language-based tasks like pattern recognition, analogy completion, code solving, and logical deduction. They also assess your child's capacity for critical thought and information analysis.

It is anticipated that the results of your child's eleven-plus exam will be sent to you in October. In March, the final Year 7 place assignments will be announced.

PREPARATION AND TARGET TEST SCORES:

The focus of the 11+ exam preparation is on a thorough approach that covers an array of learning goals from the national curriculum for Key Stage 2. At least a year before the test, children should start reviewing the material and using a "little and often" study strategy to progressively acquire the required information and skills. One very important thing is to not focus too much on issues that are easy or difficult. Youngsters should practice with 11+ test papers to guarantee exam readiness, as this will help them become accustomed to different question formats and improve their exam strategies. The 94 kids who score the highest will be able to qualify for a spot under the academic criterion; there is no minimum score necessary. However, in prior years the minimum score required for a spot under the academic criterion was 186 (2022), 182 (2021), 184 (2020), and 198 (2019). You could help your child study for the exam by using these figures as a reference. Because the institution may have an oversupply of qualified applicants, achieving a specific score does not ensure a spot there.
