INTRODUCTION:

Founded in 1850 by Frances Buss, North London Collegiate School (NLCS) is an independent day school for girls situated in Edgware, London. NLCS has long provided females with equal chances to boys, earning it recognition as a pioneer in the field of female education. The school's reputation as one of the most successful in the UK has been enhanced by its global reach, having campuses in South Korea, Dubai, and Singapore. As a school with a reputation for academic distinction, NLCS offers a wide range of programs in areas such as computer science, modern foreign languages, science, religion and philosophy, and classics. Many NLCS alumni continue their studies by enrolling in esteemed universities such as Cambridge and Oxford. The school places a high value on the holistic development of its pupils. To help girls navigate the difficulties of adolescence and develop into responsible, well-rounded young adults, it offers a fully integrated pastoral and wellbeing program that works in tandem with parents.

NLCS encourages intellectual engagement and risk-taking alongside academic excellence. Programs like Model United Nations, an international forum aimed at improving students' communication, public speaking, and negotiating abilities, are part of the institution's board activities program. In line with NLCS's mission to develop well-rounded people who not only achieve academic success but also make significant contributions to society, this program gives students the tools they need to confront and resolve global concerns.

ADMISSION GUIDELINES:

Prospective families get the unique chance to tour the location and get a feel for the school environment during NLCS Open Events. You will meet important staff members and current students on the day of the event.

Oversubscription Criteria:

There are no oversubscription criteria for the school.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:

About 60 spots are available for North London Collegiate School's 11+ entrance. They are searching for females who, besides their academic aptitude and potential, will enhance school life with their enthusiasm, drive, and determination to change the world.

Submission of application forms and payment of the £150 registration fee is required by November of the year before entrance. Your daughter will receive an invitation to the school for a formal assessment after completing this phase of the admissions process. The exams for admission are held in December.

She will get invited to an interview that is scheduled for January if she does well in the performance assessment. Offers must be accepted by the deadline in early March; they are posted in February.

CATCHMENT AREA:

There is no defined catchment region because students are accepted from a broad range of postcodes and, in the instance of boarding schools, from countries outside of the United Kingdom.

SCHOLARSHIPS AND BURSARIES:

For females who demonstrate significant musical ability, NLCS provides Handel Music Scholarships. Candidates must pass the admission exams in December and appear in a musical audition, both of which are set for late January of the entry year, to be considered for this award. The scholarship is worth the same amount as two separate private music lessons. The last day to apply is in November of the previous year, so interested individuals should be aware of this. The NLCS website has further particulars and more information.

In addition, bursaries from the NLCS are contingent upon the applicant's family's financial situation. The bursaries, which have a range of 10% to 100%, are awarded to families based on their assets and income, which reflects their degree of financial need. It is significant to remember that bursaries are subject to an annual review, and their value may change as a result. Generally, these financial aid alternatives are not available to families whose annual gross income is more than £75,000. Applications for bursaries must be submitted by November of the year before entry, the same as for the Handel Music Scholarships. Families who would want more facts about the bursaries and scholarships should visit the NLCS website for complete information and application instructions.

EXAM FORMAT:

The tests included in the North London Collegiate School (NLCS) 11+ exam are as follows:

·       English (1 hr 20 minutes)

·       Mathematics (1 hr 15 minutes)

The English paper looks at writing abilities such as inference, spelling, vocabulary, and grammar, as well as comprehension. Excellent use of form, innovation, organization, coherence, and sentence structure will earn points.

Your child's arithmetic and problem-solving skills are evaluated on the mathematics exam. There will be questions on mathematics, measures, shapes, and manipulating data in the paper.

PREPARATION AND TARGET TEST SCORES:

Our sample exams give students a better understanding of the format and style of the NLCS exams, which can help them feel more confident before the real test. They cover every possible format for an entrance exam question and might be used to pinpoint any areas that need further study to strengthen weaker regions. You can relieve your child of unneeded anxiety and make the process more manageable for them once you come up with a detailed study plan and organized strategy for the 11+ exam. We strongly advise students to take our practice exams in a timed format so they can become accustomed to responding to questions rapidly and under time constraints.

Students who can regularly achieve 80%+ on our 11+ practice exams ought to have no trouble passing the North London Collegiate 11+ exam. While there are no guarantees, traditionally, this has been a pretty good sign that your kid will perform well on the NLCS 11+ exam.
