INTRODUCTION:

Edward Latymer founded Latymer Upper School in 1624. It is located in Hammersmith, London, between King Street and the River Thames. The school has a long history. It is currently regarded as one of the top independent co-educational schools in the nation, with the greatest acceptance rates for Oxford and Cambridge amongst secondary schools and universities. With a wide range of topics covered, including sciences, coding, Mandarin, RS, mathematics, physical education, and music, the Year 7 curriculum aims to fully prepare students for subsequent educational phases. Apart from the classroom, the school provides a wide range of extracurricular activities that make use of its large campus, which includes sporting fields, AstroTurf pitches, netball courts, and a 25-meter swimming pool. These activities help students develop their talents and cultivate a sincere curiosity about the world.

Through a variety of artistic endeavors, Latymer Upper School strongly emphasizes aesthetics and cultural knowledge. The school's outstanding theatrical department is highlighted by renowned graduates including Hugh Grant, Alan Rickman, Lily Cole, and Sir Michael Boyd. The Art School often plans field trips to important art exhibitions and performances. Latymerians quickly create new experiences and enduring passions thanks to the 150+ clubs and societies that the city offers, in addition to an extensive pastoral care program. Because of this all-encompassing approach to education, kids grow into curious, fearless, eager-to-learn-new things, among people who are keen to discover their surroundings.

ADMISSION GUIDELINES:

On the school website, applicants can reserve a slot for Latymer's Open Days. A guided tour of the facilities, staff meetings, and a speech by the head are usually included in the celebrations.

Oversubscription Criteria:

There are no oversubscription criteria for the school.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:

For Year 7, Latymer Upper School offers about 170 spots. Admission is extremely competitive, with roughly seven applications vying for each position. November of the year before is the deadline for registering for the 11+ exam, which costs £125 and is non-refundable. January entrance exam consists of mathematics and English papers, with interviews for those who made the shortlist scheduled for the latter part of the month. References from schools are taken into account throughout the selection procedure. Mid-February is when offer letters are distributed, and before the initial March acceptance deadline, successful candidates are invited to a dinner hosted by the offer holders. The school's dedication to upholding rigorous standards in its admissions process is reflected in this stringent procedure.

CATCHMENT AREA:

Only pupils who reside in one of the following postcode regions will be admitted: N1 (not N1C), N2, N3, N4, N5, N6, N7, N8, N9, N10, N11, N12, N13, N14, N15, N16, N17, N18, N19, N20, N21, N22, EN1, EN2, EN3, EN4, EN5 (Sectors 1, 2, 4, 5 only), EN8 (Sectors 7, 8, 9 only). Candidates for music scholarships must first complete the academic requirements of the school. Scholarships are given out based on ability and promise as demonstrated during an audition. One music scholarship, worth up to 40% of fees, is available at 11+, even though the rest of the prizes do not go over 20%.

Among the most substantial bursary programs in the UK is Latymer's. The institution wants to offer means-tested bursaries to as many as 25% of its students in the upcoming years. Depending on the family's financial situation, bursaries can pay anywhere from 25 to 100% of the costs. A house visit by senior staff members will be part of the evaluation process.

EXAM FORMAT:

The components of the Latymer Upper School 11+ test are:

·       Mathematics (60 minutes)

·       English Comprehension (35 minutes)

·       English Writing (45 minutes)

Solving problems is a major emphasis of the mathematical exam. Part B is an open-ended question, while Section A uses a multiple-choice approach.

It's a multiple-choice English comprehension test. Good use of form, creativity, organization, coherence, and sentence structure are rewarded with points on the English writing paper.

PREPARATION AND TARGET TEST SCORES:

Our practice exams accurately replicate the real 11+ exam because they are made up of well-researched and current questions. Their systematic approach to 11+ exam preparation might assist you in determining your child's strengths and weaknesses in areas of knowledge. Our practice papers will not only help you spot your child's possible flaws but also their strengths, allowing you to modify their study program appropriately. A well-planned revision schedule emphasizing "little and often" study sessions should make the preparatory process a little less taxing.

Students who can regularly score 80% or above on the 11+ practice exams should be prepared to pass the 11+ exam at Latymer Upper School. There are no promises, but traditionally, this has been a pretty good sign that your child would perform well on the Latymer Upper 11+ exam.
