INTRODUCTION:

Chester is home to The King's School, which is an independent day school serving students in grades 4 through 18. Just over 35% of its students are female, and it has been completely coeducational since 2004. There is an infant school, junior school, senior school, and sixth form at the school. King Henry VIII established the King's School in 1542, hence the school's name. Initially located in the refectory of the former St Werburgh's Abbey, which was later transformed into Chester Cathedral, the school had multiple locations before relocating to its present 33-acre greenbelt site in 1960, which is situated on Wrexham Road on the outskirts of Chester.

Since then, the school's substantial facilities have been added and expanded, including a swimming pool, theatre, all-weather field, sports hall, ten sports pitches, and a rowing club (placed on the River Dee). The original school buildings were constructed in the 1950s. The King's School, the highest-achieving school in Cheshire, places a strong emphasis on academic achievement. 91% of GCSE entrants in recent years received grades between A* and B. The school provides 130 club activities, and access to a wide range of sports, musical hobbies, and other extracurricular activities since it firmly encourages students to develop their non-academic potential and explore their gifts.

ADMISSION GUIDELINES:

Every year, The King's School hosts many public events. The school website has information on these events, including how to sign up to attend. The admissions office can set up individual visits and taster days for prospective students.

There is no catchment area for the school.

SCHOLARSHIPS AND BURSARIES:

External 11+ applicants are eligible for a restricted number of means-tested bursaries. In the registration form, you have to indicate your keenness to be considered for this award. After that, the school will give you a Bursary Application Form, which needs to be turned in by the deadline in late November of the year before admission.

A thorough means-testing process, which involves an outside company's home visit, is used to determine the award's value (BAL).

EXAM FORMAT:

The following tests make up the admission exam for King's School 11+:

·       CEM Select

·       English Writing (Essay)

CEM Select is an online test consisting of brief modules that evaluate Verbal, Non-Verbal, and Numerical Ability using a computer.

Marks will be given for the English paper based on the student's effective use of form, inventiveness, organization, coherence, and sentence structure.

PREPARATION AND TARGET TEST SCORES:

Practice tests are a great approach to being ready for tough entrance exams. Efficiently and effectively, these assist students in becoming acquainted with the structure and kinds of questions they would see on the real test. Students also have a great chance to practice working under time constraints with them. For the entrance exam at The King's School, our practice exams provide great preparation. They go over every important skill and can be utilized to boost confidence and pinpoint any areas where you're weaker and need more practice before the test.

Students who regularly achieve a score of 75% or higher on the practice exams should be prepared to pass the 11+ paper-based test at The King's School, Chester. The online CEM Select test is also used at The King's School. CEM Select is a unique test, which is very time-consuming. It is not required of the students to respond to every question. 60%+ is regarded as an exceptional grade concerning pass marks, and 50%+ is regarded as a very good score. This has historically been a pretty good indication that your child should perform well on the King's Chester 11+ exam, however, there are no promises.
