INTRODUCTION:

Since its establishment in 1829, King's College School, or KCS, has had a distinguished history. It is situated in Wimbledon, southwest London. The school is well-known for its advanced curriculum and is frequently ranked in the top tier of educational establishments nationwide. ADMISSION GUIDELINES:

Oversubscription Criteria:

·  First Priority: Children Who Are and Have Been Looked After Previously.

·    Second Priority: Special arrangements, as detailed in our policy on admissions.

·   Third Priority: Relatives enrolled in the college at the time of admission.

·       Fourth Priority: Children of staff.

·   Fifth Priority: Applicants who, at the end of the admissions application period, reside closest to the college.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:

By the end of October, when they will be in Year 6 at their current school, boys will need to register for the admission exams. £150 is the registration cost.

In December of the year before admission, they will take entrance exams. Those who demonstrate success will then be asked for interviews, which are scheduled for January. Some candidates will receive offers of spots for September entrance after the interviews.

February is when offers are made. Kindly be aware that securing a spot requires paying a deposit of £2000.

CATCHMENT AREA:

There is no defined catchment region because students are accepted from a broad range of postcodes and, in the case of boarding schools, from countries outside of the United Kingdom.

SCHOLARSHIPS AND BURSARIES:

Candidates who score extremely high on the admission exams are eligible to apply for the Rogers and Cayley Academic Scholarships offered by the institution. For these rewards, separate applications are not necessary.

Additionally, there are music scholarships. Free musical instruction on two instruments is included, and they are valued at £400 of the school fees.

The annual value of sports exhibitions is £200, while sports scholarships are worth £400. The application deadline is in the middle of November of the year before admission.

Families in need of financial assistance can apply for means-tested bursaries. These may be worth up to 100% of the fees in specific situations.

Each year, bursaries are reevaluated, and their worth may alter based on modifications to your financial situation. Kindly be advised that a house visit will be part of the assessment process.

EXAM FORMAT:

1. The English paper comprises of:

• Comprehension Paper: 35 minutes
• Grammar Paper: 10 minutes
• Essay Paper: 30 minutes, with four possible questions

2. The Mathematics paper comprises of:

• 50 minutes for Sections A and B

3. Verbal Reasoning comprises of:

• Understanding, awareness, and skill with word-based problems
• The use of English language
• Terminology
• Logical reasoning

Boys who have demonstrated potential and promise will be contacted back for interviews in January after the tests.

PREPARATION AND TARGET TEST SCORES:

Students can feel more confident in the run-up to the big day by becoming accustomed to the format and style of the KCS 11+ exams through our practice exams. They encompass every possible format for an entrance exam question and can be utilized to pinpoint any areas of weakness that need further attention. You may take the tension out of the preparation process and provide your child with a more bearable experience once you come up with a detailed study plan and organized approach to the 11+ exam. To get students used to responding to questions rapidly and under time constraints, we strongly advise them to take our practice exams in a timed format.

Students who attain a regular score of 80% or higher on their 11+ practice exams are expected to pass the 11+ exam at King's College Lower School. There are no certainties, but traditionally, this has been a pretty good sign that your child would perform well in the KCS Wimbledon 11+ exam.
