INTRODUCTION:

Forest School is located in Walthamstow, London, and was established as the Forest Proprietary Grammar School in 1834, tracing its origins back to the 18th century. The school underwent a significant transformation in the mid-1800s, under the leadership of headmaster John Gilderdale, which laid the foundation for its future success. In 1936, under the guidance of Gerald Cedar Miller, the school began to modernize and expand its campus after World War II, constructing new buildings such as the Tuck shop, Junior School, Science Block, Aston Block, and Manor House. Over time, the school continued to evolve, and in the 1970s, the Girls' School was added, which was officially inaugurated by HRH; The Duchess of Kent in 1981, marking a significant milestone in the school's history.

The Year 7 curriculum at Forest School is comprehensive and covers a wide range of disciplines, including Latin, computer science, English, maths, science, religious studies, history, geography, art, design and technology, food and nutrition, theatre, music, and wellbeing. Interestingly, in Year 7, students can choose to study two modern foreign languages French, German, Mandarin, and Spanish. In recent years, Forest School has achieved great success, as highlighted in the GCSE report, with at least 75% of the 1400 individual GCSE marks given to the 150 students over two years being A**/A*/A, and 50% being A**/A*. Additionally, twenty students received straight A**/A* grades, which demonstrates the school's dedication to academic excellence.

ADMISSION GUIDELINES:

Parents and prospective candidates are invited to attend the school's open days to meet with senior staff and familiarize themselves with the campus facilities. The school holds three events throughout the year, including an Open Day in September, an Open Evening in June, and group guided tours called The Forest Experience, which run from September to December. In addition to Taster Days in February, the school also offers visits in March and February to candidates who have received offers.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:

The educational institution is dedicated to increasing the number of students it admits, regardless of their parent's financial status. Therefore, it is highly encouraged that the Forest community maintains its diversity.

To support this goal, the school has introduced four new scholarships called "Assisted Places." These scholarships will provide free tuition to deserving students in grades 11 and above who have demonstrated a financial need.

To be eligible for general entry, candidates must turn 11 before September in the year of entry. Ultimately, the choice is based upon:

1. Admission exam results

2. A confidential, written report from the existing school

3. An interview

Candidates will have the chance to discuss their accomplishments and interests during the interview, including their extracurricular and academic pursuits.

EXAM FORMAT:

Online Exam:

· Mathematics

· Non-Verbal Reasoning

· English & Verbal Reasoning

· Puzzles & Problem Solving

Written Exam:

· English Writing

In the Mathematics segment, there will be various multiple-choice questions that cover a wide range of difficulties. The test will include important mathematical concepts and may require your child to refer to charts and diagrams to answer some of the questions.

The Non-Verbal Reasoning module will cover both 2D non-verbal reasoning and spatial reasoning questions in a multiple-choice format.

The Reading Comprehension module will be the first one that your child will encounter. It will be followed by the English & Verbal Reasoning module. Once your child finishes reading the comprehension, they will be asked to identify any potential errors in grammar and punctuation in a few questions. After that, some Verbal Reasoning questions will come up to assess vocabulary and the ability to understand meanings in different contexts.

The "Puzzles & Problem Solving" section will consist of various interactive diagrams and puzzles created with Geogebra software. Each one will have a corresponding question that requires a typed response in a designated box.

In the "Creative Comprehension" module, your child will need to answer multiple-choice questions by drawing information from diverse sources.

The purpose of the English Writing assessment is to evaluate writing abilities, including spelling and grammar, through an activity.

PREPARATION AND TARGET TEST SCORES:

We recommend that students follow an organized approach to prepare for the 11+ entrance exam. One of the important components of this approach is to practice with exams that consist of well-researched questions, which closely resemble the structure of the actual competitive 11+ exam. Our practice exams are designed to help your child become familiar with answering questions quickly and efficiently. They cover all the essential skills and a wide range of question types that are likely to be encountered in the real test. Most importantly, these practice exams will also help in identifying any areas where your child may be weaker and require additional effort and attention.

Students who regularly achieve a score of 80% or higher on the 11+ practice exams are likely to succeed in the Forest School 11+ exam. There are no promises, but traditionally, this has been a pretty good sign that your child would perform well on the Forest School 11+ exam.
