INTRODUCTION:

Currently located in Surrey, Caterham School was founded in 1811 and has a strong history as an independent coeducational school. Over the years, the school has changed from its original purpose of providing residential education for the sons of Congregational Ministers. In 1995 it merged with the Eothen School for Girls to become coeducational. Recognized for its cutting-edge and imaginative teaching strategies, Caterham School offers a thorough curriculum with an emphasis on art, computer science, 3D design, and mathematics in addition to standard topics like physics, English, and math. With programs like the School Council and Digital Council, the school emphasizes pastoral care and community development, creating a supportive atmosphere where students can acquire critical life skills.

A vast range of subjects are covered in the school's PSHEE (Personal, Social, Health, and Economic Education) curriculum, which is structured around five main components: health, readiness, awareness, community, and spirituality. The House structure encourages friendships between people of different ages and offers venues for intramural competitions in sports, music, theatre, debating, and other activities. The Health Centre at Caterham School cares for its pupils' physical and mental health first, providing a 'home from home' kind of atmosphere for those who are ill. The mission of Caterham School is to facilitate pupils' journey into adulthood by building emotional literacy and a compassionate community.

ADMISSION GUIDELINES:

Open events give an ideal chance for families to discover life on Caterham School’s campus. Student-led tours and a headmaster's address are part of the Full School Open Morning.

On a typical school day, Visitor Mornings feature talks by the Director of Learning and Teaching and the Headmaster, as well as a tour of the school, refreshments, and a meeting with senior staff. Reservations are required for these events.

The Admissions team can arrange for private tours.

Oversubscription Criteria:

There are no oversubscription criteria for the school.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:

To begin the admissions process, parents must first fill out an application and send it back by the beginning of November in Year 6. Admission is determined by how well an applicant does in a two-stage exam process and an interview (help in November).

An online exam makes up the Stage 1 exam. Students who fare well enough will be invited to take further paper exams in January. Additionally, there will be an engaging group problem-solving exercise.

You will be asked for a recent school reference as a part of the application process. Please be aware that deposits are required to secure a spot, if one is offered.

CATCHMENT AREA:

There is no defined catchment area.

EXAM FORMAT:

At Caterham School, the Stage 1 11+ test consists of:

Ø  ISEB Common Pretest

The Pretest is a computer-based evaluation designed to test your child's proficiency in the following areas: English, math, and verbal, and nonverbal reasoning.

In January, the Stage 2 11+ exam will include:

Ø  Mathematics

Ø  Creative Writing and Critical Thinking

Spelling, vocabulary, and punctuation are among the writing skills that are examined in the creative writing assignment. Excellent use of form, innovation, organization, coherence, and sentence structure will earn points.

The Critical Thinking assignment evaluates students' ability to solve problems in novel and creative ways.

There will be questions on numbers, measurements, geometry, algebra, and statistics in the math test.

PREPARATION AND TARGET TEST SCORES:

We advise pupils to prepare for the 11+ entrance exam using a systematic method. Practice exams are one component of this strategy; they are made up of current, well-researched questions that mimic the structure of the competitive 11+ exam. These practice exams will help your child become accustomed to responding to questions efficiently and fast by going over all the important concepts and the variety of questions they will face on the real test. More significantly, they will assist in identifying any areas that are weaker and need more effort and attention. The practice exams will help your youngster become more confident in this way.
