INTRODUCTION:

Located in southeast London's Blackheath Village, Blackheath High School is a stand-alone day school for females. Originally established in 1880 as a part of the Girls' Day Institution Trust, the institution had state funding up until 1976. The Senior School curriculum includes the following subjects: theatre, English, geography, history, mathematics, MFL, music, physical education, psychology, religious studies, business & economics, computer science, design & technology, and the arts.

Girls can select from a wide range of co-curricular activities in the program, including debate, French film, performing arts, politics, psychology, and Amnesty International. The goal of the school is to prepare girls for life after graduation by fostering their intellectual curiosity and fortitude. Girl students can embrace the mindset that there are no boundaries to their potential because of small class numbers combined with an energetic environment that is distinguished by a love of learning.

ADMISSION GUIDELINES:

During the Autumn Term, the school offers a unique chance for families to get acquainted with life on campus: Whole School Open Morning. Autumn and spring are the times for the School in Action event. You will be able to attend classes and tour the facilities that day.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:

Students are admitted to the school based on their performance on admission exams, interviews, and current school references. Online application forms must be submitted with a £150 non-refundable fee to be processed.

The entrance exam is taken by prospective students in November of the year before they are admitted. The school will extend an invitation to selected candidates to attend an interview. If they are chosen, they will get an offer that they must accept by sending a £1,000 deposit.

SCHOLARSHIPS AND BURSARIES:

Academic Scholarships are available from the school for females who show great potential and ability. Since these are given out based on performance in the 11+ admissions process, no additional testing is necessary. Nonetheless, a senior staff member will interview candidates for scholarships. 

For gifted girls wishing to enter Year 7, the school also grants scholarships in the areas of art, music, drama, and sports. It is possible to combine an academic award with a scholarship for a single course, but the total value cannot be greater than 50% of the fees.

The value of bursaries is determined by your income and financial resources and is means-tested. You must mention your interest in receiving a bursary on the 11+ application form to be eligible for one. After that, the admissions staff will contact you with additional information.

EXAM FORMAT:

The following papers make up the admission test for Blackheath High School 11+:

·       Mathematics (MCQ)

·       Verbal Reasoning (MCQ)

The English GL-style paper tests your knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and comprehension.

The Math GL-style exam evaluates your daughter's arithmetic and problem-solving capabilities. There will be questions on geometry, algebra, statistics, numbers, and measuring in the test.

The main goals of the Verbal Reasoning GL-style papers are to evaluate and test vocabulary, logical reasoning, and English language usage.
